Asbestos Removal Melbourne Soil Project
Recently, Southstar Asbestos Removal Melbourne got called out to removal asbestos contaminated soil.
We did a site layer cut throughout the whole block, collecting approx 50-100 mm of contaminated soil and removing it entirely from the Kingsbury lot.
Asbestos Contaminated Soil
Contaminated soil with asbestos can be found throughout all of Melbourne. There are two types of asbestos contamination in soil. These are bonded asbestos pieces throughout the soil, which was commonly used as landfill prior to construction of a structure, and friable asbestos fibres originating from nearby asbestos containing materials that have deteriorated and release fibres that are washed into the soil. Asbestos contaminated soil can be a serious issue to rectify. Soil is much harder to inspect than materials that are above ground. Soil needs to be dug up and even then, soil remediation can only take place on areas of soil which have been tested or where asbestos is visibally found. Asbestos contamination is also unique in that, unlike contamination caused by other chemicals, it is found in discrete locations only and there is invariably an element of “hit-and-miss” when identifying the extent of asbestos-contaminated soils.
If you identify that your property contains contaminated soil, you still should call a licensed professional to remove the soil. This will require the use of equipment hire such as an excavator in order to collecting remove the first layer of the soil and dispose of the soil.
